James Summerfelt is the President and CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association. He moved here from Reno, Nevada in June 2004, where he was Vice President of Professional and Support Services for Saint Mary’s Medical Center.

Jamie grew up in the Chicago area and received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Northwestern University where he also played Big Ten football. He then went on to graduate school and received a Master of Science in Physical Therapy and Master of Arts in Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). Moving back to Chicago, he established his own physical therapy business that he eventually merged with a national healthcare provider and proceeded to establish homecare businesses in 9 different states. His passion for home care has brought him to Omaha and the VNA that he feels is his dream position. The VNA offers him the opportunity to lead a nonprofit, freestanding, mission driven, community healthcare organization in a community that has a 113-year history of supporting the VNA services.

Jamie is currently Chair of the Visiting Nurse Associations of America Board of Directors, and serves on their Policy Council and Finance Committee. Some of his local appointments include the Board of Directors for Hospice House, Hospice of Southwest Iowa, Partnerships in Aging Executive Committee, and the North Omaha Development Project Transportation Committee.

Jamie and his wife, Maggie have three children: Ryan (24) Kristen (20) and Sean (14).
